Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to your use of The Crafty Herbalist Academy website and to any membership, course or other service purchased through it.

Please read them carefully before joining the Academy. By purchasing a membership, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

Nothing in these Terms affects any legal rights you have as a consumer.

Part One: Membership Terms

1. About us

The Crafty Herbalist Academy is operated by Kristine De Block, trading as The Crafty Herbalist Academy.

In these Terms, “the Academy”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Kristine De Block trading as The Crafty Herbalist Academy.

“You”, “your” and “member” refer to the person who purchases or uses an Academy membership.

2. About the Academy

The Crafty Herbalist Academy is an online herbal medicine learning membership for adults.

It currently includes:

a self-paced Herbal Medicine Foundation Course
course modules released gradually through the membership
written handbooks, monographs and other learning resources
assignments reviewed by Kristine De Block or another appropriately qualified tutor
live online classes during term time
recordings of live classes where available
seasonal herbal projects, recipe collections and foraging resources
access to a private community forum
additional or advanced materials where these form part of the member’s level of access

The precise content and format may develop over time as the Academy grows. We may replace, update or withdraw individual resources where reasonably necessary, provided that the overall service remains substantially consistent with the membership purchased.

The Academy is intended for people aged 18 or over.

3. The nature of the course

The course is designed to support personal learning about herbal medicine and the safe use of herbs in the home.

It is self-paced, although modules may be released at intervals to support gradual learning. Members are responsible for managing their own study time and completing course work.

Assignments must be submitted in accordance with the assignment guidance provided within the course. Where photographs or other practical evidence are required, this will be explained in the relevant assignment.

All course teaching and assessment are provided in English. We do not currently provide translations.

4. Foundation Certificate and accreditation

Members who successfully complete the required Foundation Course modules, quizzes, assignments and practical work may be awarded a Foundation Certificate in Herbal Medicine.

The Foundation Course is accredited by the Complementary Medical Association at the date of these Terms.

Accreditation arrangements and the membership requirements of external organisations may change. We cannot guarantee that an external organisation will accept an application, offer insurance or continue to provide any particular membership benefit.

The Foundation Certificate is not a degree in herbal medicine and does not qualify a graduate as a medical herbalist.

The Academy does not provide clinical practitioner training, supervised clinical hours or a licence to diagnose, prescribe for or treat members of the public.

Anyone wishing to work professionally with clients is responsible for obtaining appropriate further education, clinical training, professional membership, insurance and any other qualifications or permissions required for their intended work.

5. Live classes

Live classes are normally held online during UK school term times. There may be no live classes during July, August or other school holiday periods.

Dates, times, subjects and tutors may change where reasonably necessary.

We aim to record live classes and make recordings available within seven working days. However, recordings cannot be guaranteed. Occasionally, a recording may be delayed, unavailable or affected by technical problems.

Missing a live class does not entitle a member to a refund.

A live class may occasionally be postponed because of illness, technical problems or another unforeseen circumstance. Where reasonably possible, the class will be rearranged or a suitable alternative will be provided.

6. Recordings and privacy during live classes

Live sessions may be recorded and made available to other Academy members.

Your display name, voice, image, video or comments may be included in a recording if you choose to participate.

You can reduce the personal information captured by:

keeping your camera switched off
changing your display name to your first name, initials or “Attendee”
avoiding sharing private health or personal information during a recorded session

By speaking, appearing on camera or sharing material during a recorded class, you acknowledge that your contribution may appear in the class recording.

Please contact us before a class if you have particular concerns about being recorded.

7. Community forum

Members may be given access to a private community forum.

The forum is provided for general discussion, peer support and questions relating to Academy learning. It is not an emergency service, clinical consultation service or source of individual medical advice.

Kristine may contribute to the forum, but we do not guarantee that every question will receive a response or that the forum will be continuously monitored.

The forum may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, technical problems or circumstances outside our control.

Members should keep their own copies of anything they particularly wish to retain.

8. Membership prices

The price of your membership will be shown clearly before you purchase.

Prices are inclusive of any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.

Membership may be offered on a monthly or annual payment basis. The payment arrangement you select will be confirmed at checkout.

We may offer different forms of membership or access at different prices.

9. Recurring payments and renewal

Membership is an ongoing subscription unless expressly described as a fixed-term purchase.

By subscribing, you authorise the selected payment provider to take recurring payments at the interval shown at checkout.

Monthly memberships normally renew on the same date each month.

Annual memberships normally renew on the anniversary of the original purchase.

Where the renewal date falls on a date that does not occur in a particular month, the payment provider may process payment on another appropriate date.

You are responsible for ensuring that your payment details remain valid and up to date.

10. Changes to membership prices

We may change membership prices from time to time.

Any new price will not be applied to an existing subscription without advance notice. We will give you at least 28 days’ notice before increasing the recurring price of your membership.

You may cancel before the new price takes effect if you do not wish to continue at the revised price.

11. Joining and immediate access

When you join, you may receive immediate access to digital course material, downloadable resources, videos and other membership content.

Where required by law, you will be asked during checkout to:

expressly request that access to digital content begins immediately; and
acknowledge that beginning the supply of digital content may affect or end your statutory right to cancel that part of the purchase

Your order confirmation should record this consent and acknowledgement.

If the legally required consent and acknowledgement have not been obtained, your statutory rights may continue regardless of anything stated in these Terms.

12. Seven-day Academy guarantee

In addition to your statutory rights, the Academy may offer a seven-day goodwill guarantee to new members on the monthly plan only.

Where this guarantee is offered, you may request cancellation and a refund within seven days of your first purchase by emailing kristine@thecraftyherbalist.org.uk.

The guarantee applies only to a member’s first purchase of the relevant Academy membership. It does not apply to renewals, returning memberships or repeated purchases unless we agree otherwise in writing.

We may refuse use of the goodwill guarantee where there has been unusually extensive or systematic downloading of Academy resources before the refund request.

This goodwill guarantee does not limit any separate right you may have under consumer law.

13. Cancelling your membership

You may cancel your membership at any time.

Cancellation prevents future renewal payments. It does not ordinarily create a right to a refund for a membership period that has already begun, except where:

you are entitled to a refund under consumer law
the seven-day Academy guarantee applies
the service is faulty or has been materially misdescribed
we agree to a refund at our discretion

You can cancel through the cancellation facility provided in your account, through the payment provider where applicable, or by emailing kristine@thecraftyherbalist.org.uk.

Please cancel before your next renewal payment is due. We recommend allowing sufficient time for your request to be received and processed.

When a membership is cancelled, access will normally continue until the end of the period already paid for. Access will then end automatically.

If you later rejoin the Academy, your course access may be reviewed and reset to the stage that appropriately reflects your previous study, submitted work and membership history. Previous membership does not guarantee that access will resume from the point technically displayed by the membership platform.

14. Annual memberships

An annual membership gives access for the annual period purchased and will renew annually unless cancelled.

Cancelling an annual membership prevents the next annual renewal. It does not normally provide a partial refund for unused months within the current paid year.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights or the seven-day Academy guarantee where applicable.

15. Failed payments

If a recurring payment fails, we may attempt to collect it again.

Access may be temporarily restricted while payment remains outstanding.

If payment is not received within a reasonable period, we may cancel the membership.

You remain responsible for any properly due payment relating to a membership period already supplied.

16. Pausing a membership

We may, at our discretion, allow a monthly membership to be paused for a limited period.

Any pause arrangement must be agreed in writing. Pausing is not an automatic contractual right unless it was expressly included in the membership purchased.

The terms of the pause, including the date payments and access resume, will be confirmed to you.

17. Our right to suspend or cancel membership

We may temporarily suspend or cancel a membership where we reasonably believe that:

payment is overdue
login details have been shared
there has been unusually extensive, automated or systematic downloading
Academy material has been shared, copied or used outside the permitted licence
the member has seriously or repeatedly breached these Terms
the member has behaved abusively, unlawfully or in a way that presents a risk to other members or the Academy
suspension is reasonably necessary to protect the website, Academy systems, members or intellectual property

Where appropriate, we will explain the reason and give the member an opportunity to respond.

We may act immediately where the breach is serious, there is a security concern, or delay could cause further harm.

Where we cancel because of a serious breach by the member, a refund will not normally be due for the remaining membership period. This will be considered fairly in light of the circumstances and does not affect any rights that cannot legally be excluded.

18. Ownership and personal use of Academy materials

All Academy materials remain the intellectual property of Kristine De Block trading as The Crafty Herbalist Academy.

This includes, without limitation:

course modules
written handbooks
herbal monographs
class handouts
worksheets and assignments
seasonal workbooks
recipes and remedy-making instructions
videos and audio recordings
live-class recordings
photographs and illustrations
foraging resources
downloadable files
website and membership portal content
the structure, sequence, selection and arrangement of Academy teaching materials

The Academy curriculum has been developed over many years through research, clinical experience, teaching and practical herbal work. It has been carefully structured to support safe, gradual and progressive learning.

Membership gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the materials for your own private study and learning only.

Purchasing a membership does not transfer ownership, copyright or any wider right to use the Academy curriculum or materials.

Access to a resource through the membership portal does not mean that the resource has been sold to you or that you have acquired the right to reproduce, adapt, teach from or commercially use it.

19. Downloading Academy resources

Downloadable resources are provided to support your personal and progressive learning as you move through the course and remain an active member of the Academy.

Where membership is paid monthly, the subscription provides ongoing access to the Academy and its resources. It does not provide permission to join for a short period in order to download, copy or retain the full course library, future course materials, advanced materials or a substantial collection of Academy resources before cancelling.

You may download individual resources made available to you where this is reasonably connected with your current stage of study.

Academy materials must not be downloaded in bulk, rapidly or systematically collected, or accessed substantially beyond your appropriate stage of the course.

The fact that a resource is technically visible or downloadable through a member account does not grant permission to collect, retain, reproduce or use that material outside the personal-study licence set out in these Terms.

You may print one personal working copy of a downloadable resource unless the resource states otherwise.

Where unusually extensive, rapid, automated or systematic downloading is identified, we may temporarily suspend access while the activity is reviewed.

We may also require written confirmation that:

the materials have not been shared with another person
no copies have been retained on another device, account, storage service or in another location
the materials have not been reproduced or uploaded elsewhere
the materials have not been used outside the personal-study licence
the materials will not be used for teaching, publishing or commercial purposes

Where a member has deliberately accessed or downloaded course materials substantially beyond their appropriate stage of study or normal course progression, we reserve the right to seek payment representing the reasonable value of the additional course access or materials obtained.

Any payment sought will take into account the membership fees already paid and will not exceed the difference between those payments and the applicable full annual course fee.

Serious or deliberate misuse may also result in immediate suspension or termination of membership and withdrawal of access.

20. Returning members and course progression

The Academy is designed as a gradual and ongoing course of study.

Members may cancel their subscription and may apply to rejoin at a later date, subject to availability and the membership terms in force at that time.

Previous membership does not guarantee that a returning member will retain the same level of course access.

When a member rejoins, we may review and adjust their access so that it reflects:

the modules they had appropriately reached
the assignments they had completed or submitted
the length of their previous paid membership
their previous study and membership history

A returning member’s access may therefore resume from an earlier stage than the stage technically displayed by the membership platform.

Membership must not be repeatedly started and cancelled for the purpose of:

gaining accelerated access to course materials
accessing modules beyond the member’s appropriate stage
downloading resources in short, concentrated periods
collecting substantial parts of the Academy library without undertaking the course as intended
retaining the benefits of a full-year course while paying for only brief periods of access

Where we reasonably believe that repeated joining and cancelling is being used in this way, we may:

reset access to the appropriate stage of the course
restrict access to advanced or future materials
temporarily suspend access while the activity is reviewed
refuse a new or returning membership
review previous downloading activity
request written confirmation about the retention and use of downloaded materials
seek payment representing the reasonable value of additional access or materials obtained, subject to Section 19

This does not prevent a member from cancelling their subscription or returning later where they genuinely wish to continue their studies.

21. Prohibited use of Academy materials

You are not permitted to copy, reproduce, modify, republish, transmit, distribute, translate or provide Academy materials to another person except where expressly allowed by these Terms or by law.

You must not:

share Academy materials with another person, whether free of charge or in return for payment
upload Academy materials to another website, platform, cloud folder, shared drive, online group or membership
sell, license or include Academy materials in another product, publication, course, workshop or membership
use Academy handbooks, modules, recipes, handouts, assignments or teaching structures in your own classes, workshops, consultations or professional training
teach directly from Academy materials
alter, rewrite, repackage, rebrand or rearrange Academy materials and present them as your own work
adapt Academy materials to create substantially similar educational, professional or commercial content
use the Academy curriculum, activities, teaching sequence or course structure as the basis of another course, programme or membership
reproduce Academy materials in another format or medium
translate and distribute Academy materials without written permission
incorporate Academy materials into a book, article, newsletter, website, social-media account, podcast, video, training programme or publication
supply Academy materials to an artificial intelligence system for the purpose of generating teaching, publishing, marketing or commercial content
use Academy materials to train, develop or improve an artificial intelligence model or commercial content-generation system
remove copyright notices, branding, watermarks or identifying information
use Academy materials in a way that suggests our endorsement of another person, practitioner, business, product, course or service
use artificial intelligence or any other automated tool to rewrite, paraphrase, summarise, restructure, translate, extract from or transform Academy materials into new teaching, publishing, marketing or commercial content

Changing the wording, appearance, format, branding or order of Academy material does not create a new right to use it.

The Academy curriculum and its materials must not be repackaged, rebranded, adapted or delivered in another form without the express written permission of Kristine De Block.

Brief quotation may be permitted where allowed by law, provided that it is fair, limited, accurately attributed and does not substitute for the original material.

Any use beyond private personal study requires prior written permission.

22. Use after cancellation

Cancellation ends access to the Academy portal, classes, recordings, community forum and future materials.

Resources legitimately downloaded during an active membership may be retained for the former member’s own private study only.

Downloaded resources must not be retained where they were obtained through bulk, systematic or inappropriate downloading outside the intended progression of the course. We may require those materials and any copies to be deleted.

All intellectual-property and confidentiality restrictions in these Terms continue after membership ends.

Ending a membership does not give permission to:

share Academy material
teach from Academy material
reproduce or republish Academy material
adapt, rebrand or repackage Academy material
sell or commercially exploit Academy material
use Academy material in another course, workshop, publication or business

If you later rejoin the Academy, your course access may be reviewed and reset to the stage that appropriately reflects your previous study, submitted work and membership history.

23. Login details and account security

Your account and login details are personal to you.

You must not:

share your password or login details
allow another person to access the membership through your account
create a shared account unless we have expressly agreed to this in writing
attempt to access content that has not been released or made available to your membership

If you believe another person has accessed your account, you must change your password and contact us promptly.

We may restrict access where we reasonably believe an account is being shared or used without permission.

24. Member conduct

Members must communicate politely and respectfully with other members, tutors and Academy staff.

You must not post or share content that:

is threatening, abusive, discriminatory or harassing
is defamatory or knowingly false
infringes another person’s copyright, privacy or other rights
contains unlawful or inappropriate material
promotes dangerous or unlawful activity
advertises or promotes a business without permission
solicits Academy members for another course, membership, service or commercial venture
presents individual medical advice as though it were provided by the Academy
discloses another member’s confidential or personal information

We may remove content and restrict or end forum access where these standards are breached.

25. Confidentiality within the Academy

Members may share personal experiences in classes or within the private forum.

You must respect the privacy of other members.

You must not copy, screenshot, record, publish or share another member’s comments, images, personal experiences or identifying information outside the Academy without their clear permission.

This confidentiality obligation continues after your membership ends.

26. Content contributed by members

You retain ownership of original material you post or submit.

By posting content in the Academy forum or submitting it for participation in a class, you give us a limited permission to display and store it as reasonably necessary to operate the Academy.

We will not sell your personal contributions or use them in public marketing without your permission.

We may remove member content where reasonably necessary for moderation, privacy, safety, legal compliance or the proper operation of the Academy.

You must only upload material that you have the right to use.

27. Educational and medical disclaimer

Academy content is provided for general education and personal learning.

It is not individual medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Information about herbs may include traditional use, historical practice, folklore, scientific research, clinical experience and contemporary herbal practice. The presence of information within the Academy does not mean that a herb, preparation or practice is suitable for every individual.

Herbs can cause adverse effects and may interact with medicines, medical conditions, pregnancy, breastfeeding, surgery and other treatments.

You are responsible for considering your own circumstances and seeking advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional where necessary.

You must not delay seeking medical advice because of something you have read, watched or heard within the Academy.

In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service.

28. Foraging and remedy-making

Foraging, plant identification and remedy-making involve practical risks.

Members are responsible for:

identifying plants correctly
obtaining any necessary permission to forage
following local laws and access rules
avoiding polluted or unsafe gathering areas
considering allergies, contamination and contraindications
using appropriate hygiene, storage and preparation methods
keeping plants, preparations and equipment safely away from children and animals

Do not consume or use a wild plant unless you are certain of its identity and suitability.

Academy information cannot account for every local species, lookalike, environmental risk or individual health circumstance.

29. No guarantee of individual results

We will provide the Academy with reasonable care and skill.

However, learning outcomes depend on the member’s participation, study, practical work and individual circumstances.

We do not guarantee:

completion within a particular period
a particular level of knowledge or confidence
acceptance by another educational provider
professional registration or insurance
employment, income or business success
any particular health result

30. Availability and technical matters

We aim to keep the Academy website and membership portal available, but uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

Access may occasionally be affected by:

maintenance
updates
hosting problems
internet or software failures
security concerns
circumstances outside our reasonable control

We will take reasonable steps to restore access where a problem is within our control.

Members are responsible for having suitable internet access, software and equipment.

31. Changes to Academy content and delivery

We may make reasonable changes to the content, timetable, tutors, technology or delivery of the Academy.

This may include updating information, replacing resources, changing the portal, rescheduling classes or withdrawing outdated material.

We will not make a significant change that materially reduces the main service purchased without giving reasonable notice and, where appropriate, offering a suitable remedy.

32. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms where reasonably necessary because of:

changes in law or regulation
changes to the Academy or its technology
security or safeguarding concerns
the introduction of new membership features
the need to clarify existing wording

Minor or beneficial changes may take effect when published.

Where a change materially affects an existing member’s rights or obligations, we will provide reasonable advance notice.

A change will not remove rights relating to a payment or membership period already purchased unless the law allows this and the change is fair.

33. Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

We are not responsible for a loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made.

We are not responsible for business losses where you purchased the membership wholly or mainly as a consumer for personal learning. This includes loss of profit, business opportunity, anticipated savings or business reputation.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for:

death or personal injury caused by negligence
fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
breach of statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded

34. Events outside our reasonable control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control.

These may include serious illness, bereavement, extreme weather, interruption of internet or hosting services, industrial action, public emergency, government restriction or failure of a third-party platform.

We will take reasonable steps to reduce disruption and resume the affected service.

35. Complaints

We want members to be satisfied with the Academy.

Please include enough information for us to understand and investigate the issue.

We will acknowledge the complaint and aim to respond within a reasonable period.

36. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you live in another part of the United Kingdom, you may also have rights under the law that applies where you live, and nothing in these Terms removes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any right you have as a consumer to bring proceedings in another part of the United Kingdom.

37. General provisions

If any part of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining terms will continue to apply.

A delay or failure by us to enforce a provision does not mean that we have waived the right to enforce it later.

No person other than you and us has a right to enforce these Terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.

These Terms, together with the information shown at checkout and any terms expressly agreed with you in writing, form the agreement between you and the Academy.

Part Two: Website Terms of Use

38. Website use

These website terms apply to visitors using craftyherbalistacademy.com and any related Academy webpages.

By using the website, you agree to use it lawfully and in accordance with these Terms.

If you do not agree, you should stop using the website.

39. Website content

The public website contains general information about herbal medicine, Academy courses, events and services.

Website, blog, newsletter and social-media content is provided for general information and education. It is not individual medical advice.

You should seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional before acting on information where your health, medication, pregnancy, breastfeeding or a medical condition may be affected.

40. Website intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the website and its contents are owned by Kristine De Block trading as The Crafty Herbalist Academy.

This includes text, photographs, videos, audio, graphics, illustrations, downloads, branding, design elements and page layouts.

You may view the website for your own personal use.

You must not copy, republish, distribute, scrape, reproduce, modify or commercially use website content without prior written permission.

You may share an ordinary link to a public Academy webpage, provided that you do so fairly and do not suggest an association, approval or endorsement that does not exist.

41. Website availability

We may update, suspend or withdraw parts of the website where reasonably necessary.

We do not guarantee that the website will always be available, uninterrupted, secure or free from technical errors.

You are responsible for maintaining appropriate internet security and virus protection on your own devices.

42. Misuse of the website

You must not:

attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, portal, server or database
bypass access restrictions
introduce viruses, malicious code or harmful material
carry out automated or systematic scraping or downloading
interfere with the operation or security of the website
use the website for fraud or unlawful activity
impersonate another person
use another member’s account
collect personal information about members without permission

Serious misuse may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

43. External links

The website may contain links to third-party websites.

These links are provided for convenience and general information. We do not control third-party websites and are not responsible for their content, availability, security or privacy practices.

The presence of a link does not necessarily indicate endorsement.

44. Accuracy of public content

We take reasonable care when preparing website content, but herbal knowledge and scientific information continue to develop.

We do not guarantee that every public webpage will always be complete or fully up to date.

We may correct errors and update material without notice.

Part Three: Community and Acceptable Use Rules

45. Purpose of the community

The Academy community exists to support respectful learning, discussion and connection between members.

It must not be used primarily for advertising, gathering clients, recruiting members into another programme or distributing unrelated promotional material.

46. Prohibited behaviour

You must not use the Academy website, classes or community to:

bully, threaten, intimidate or harass another person
post discriminatory, hateful, sexually explicit or violent content
publish defamatory or knowingly misleading statements
promote illegal or dangerous activity
breach another person’s privacy
infringe copyright, trade marks or other intellectual-property rights
distribute spam or unsolicited marketing
gather member contact details for marketing or recruitment
impersonate another person or misrepresent your qualifications
provide individual medical diagnoses or prescriptions while presenting them as Academy advice
upload malware or attempt to interfere with Academy systems

47. Moderation

We may moderate, edit or remove posts that breach these rules or place members, the Academy or another person at risk.

Where appropriate, we may issue a warning before restricting access.

Serious or repeated breaches may result in immediate removal from the forum or cancellation of membership.

We are not required to monitor every post before it appears.

48. Reporting concerns

Please report concerns about another member, a forum post or Academy content privately to:

Do not attempt to resolve serious privacy, safety or harassment concerns through public arguments in the forum.

Part Four: Privacy and Cookies

49. Personal information

We process personal information in accordance with our separate Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for keeping your contact and account information accurate.

Please review the Privacy Policy before purchasing or submitting personal information.

50. Cookies

The website uses essential cookies and may use analytics, preference or marketing cookies where appropriate consent has been obtained.

Further information about the cookies used, their purpose and how to manage them should be provided in a separate Cookie Policy and through the website’s cookie-consent controls.

Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the website or membership portal from working properly.
